Miracle Mile is Coral Gables’ main street: four blocks of Coral Way between LeJeune Road and Douglas Road, in the heart of the Central Business District. Together with Giralda Plaza a block north and the streets around Aragon Avenue, it is where the city eats out, shops, goes to the theater and holds most of its downtown events.

A short history

City founder George Merrick laid out the business section of Coral Gables in the 1920s. In the 1940s, developers and business owners began investing in the four-block commercial strip of Coral Way, and George K. Zain, an original investor with his wife Rebyl Zain, became known as the “Father of Miracle Mile.” Zain leased the land behind the shops to the city so it could build off-street parking garages, which the city calls a revolutionary idea for the time. A plaque in his honor stands at the western entrance, according to the city’s history of the street.

Today the street has wide sidewalks with quartz pavers, palms down the median and oaks along the sidewalks. The city notes it is known for its bridal shops, which draw brides from around the world.
