FDOT says access to homes and businesses stays open and detours are signed.

FDOT is rebuilding sidewalks, curbs and gutters; adding green pavement markings at trail crossings; installing a signalized midblock crosswalk on LeJeune Road; improving drainage; repaving and restriping; and replacing traffic and pedestrian signals. For the weeks of Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, crews were doing restoration, striping, underground wiring and signal work. FDOT’s project page, updated Oct. 15, says construction is in progress but lists no newer weekly schedule.

Ponce de Leon Boulevard at Santillane Avenue

The city’s Public Works Department closed the intersection of Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Santillane Avenue on Monday, Oct. 5, to build a new roundabout. The city said the closure would last about one week, with detours. As of Oct. 19, the city had not posted a reopening notice, so we could not confirm whether the intersection is open. Call Public Works at 305-460-5000 before you drive it.

Coming later: LeJeune Road north of Altara Avenue

FDOT is designing a project on LeJeune Road from SW 40th Street to SW 8th Street that includes widening the outside northbound lane between SW 9th and SW 8th streets for an extra through lane. FDOT lists the project start as March 2029, with completion estimated in early 2030.

Power lines going underground

FPL’s Storm Secure Underground Program is moving neighborhood power lines underground in phases, which means trenching and work zones on residential streets. As of the city’s March 17, 2026, update, 8.25% of the city was under construction for 2024 to 2026, another 4.1% was in design for construction in 2026 to 2027, and 2.25% was in public outreach for 2027 to 2028. FPL writes to owners in each area before work starts. The city’s phase map (PDF) shows where.

Other city projects

The city lists its capital projects, including the ongoing restoration of City Hall, on its construction projects page. Some entries there still show 2025 schedules, so call Public Works to confirm a project’s current status.
