Brunch in Coral Gables: where to go and when they serve

Brunch in Coral Gables centers on two places: the Biltmore Hotel, whose Sunday brunch is the city’s best-known, and Giralda Plaza, the pedestrian block of Giralda Avenue downtown, where several restaurants serve weekend brunch side by side.

The Biltmore Hotel

The hotel’s Fontana restaurant, set around the courtyard fountain, also serves breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday (Fontana). The hotel’s main number is 855-311-6903.

Giralda Plaza

In 2017 the city reopened the 100 block of Giralda Avenue as Giralda Plaza, a pedestrian walkway lined with restaurants, bars and coffee shops with indoor and outdoor seating. Three brunch options sit within a few doors of each other:

Eating House is chef Giorgio Rapicavoli’s restaurant, drawing on his Argentine and Italian heritage, according to its website. It opens for dinner Wednesday to Sunday and for brunch on weekends.

Threefold Cafe was opened in 2014 by Nick and Teresa, a couple from Melbourne, Australia, and serves Australian-inspired breakfast, brunch and lunch with Melbourne-style coffee from locally roasted beans, according to the cafe.

Costazul is a Peruvian restaurant led by restaurateur Vanessa Vargas, with a weekend brunch menu alongside its ceviches and lomo saltado.

Markets for a brunch outing

• Matheson Hammock Market, Matheson Hammock Park, 9610 Old Cutler Road: Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with prepared food, coffee, sourdough, empanadas and baked goods. Vendors hand out parking vouchers.
• Shops at Merrick Park farmers market, 358 San Lorenzo Ave.: Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on the garden level by Nordstrom.
• Coral Gables Farmers Market, Merrick Park in front of City Hall: Saturdays in season, January to March.

Getting there

Giralda Plaza is a short walk from the city’s downtown garages, and the free Coral Gables Trolley runs along Ponce de Leon Boulevard Monday through Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. It does not run on Sundays. See our getting around guide.
