Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in Coral Gables

Mexican food in Coral Gables runs along two roads. Three restaurants are on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, with Coyo Taco a block away on Giralda Plaza. Two taco counters sit on South Dixie Highway (US 1) near the University of Miami.

How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside the Coral Gables city limits, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 9, 2026. We added Cantina Leon, the Giralda Avenue Coyo Taco and Xochimex Cantina Grill from the state’s restaurant inspection records. Taco Rico and Xochimex have no working website we could find; the state inspected both in July and August 2026. The list is alphabetical. Cantina Leon calls itself a Mexican restaurant that draws on the country’s regional traditions. Chef and co-owner Gerardo “Gerry” B. De Negri brings in what he learned in Mexican, Spanish and French kitchens, according to its site. It hosts private events.

Coyo Taco has two Coral Gables restaurants. The Giralda Avenue one, on the pedestrian block of Giralda Plaza, has a lounge that opens at 5 p.m. and stays open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The South Dixie Highway one is on US 1 near the University of Miami; Coyo’s site files it under South Miami but gives a Coral Gables address. The menu lists tacos such as al pastor, carne asada, shrimp and beer-battered grouper.

Taco Rico Tex-Mex Cafe is on South Dixie Highway. Its web address shows only an “under construction” page; the state inspected the restaurant, listed as El Taco Rico, in July 2026. Call for hours.

Talavera Cocina Mexicana describes itself as “a piece of Mexico in Coral Gables,” with dishes from traditional street markets to the restaurants of Mexico City. Its cantina serves cocktails for brunch and a weekday happy hour, and it takes reservations.

Xochimex Cantina Grill is on Ponce de Leon Boulevard downtown. We could not find a website of its own; the state inspected it in August 2026.

Not on this list: Bodega Taqueria y Tequila’s site no longer lists a Coral Gables location.
