The clearest public record of a new restaurant, cafe or bar in Coral Gables is the state’s licensing inspection, the first visit a new or newly licensed food business gets from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Eight Coral Gables businesses had one between July 1 and Oct. 6, 2026, most of them downtown on Miracle Mile and Giralda Avenue.

A licensing inspection can also mean a change of owner or license at an existing spot, so the date is not always an opening date. The state file also lists a Coral Gables mailing city for a business on West Flagler Street, outside the city limits; we left it out. Where to find other new businesses

  • City Business Explorer: the city’s Business Explorer maps businesses by industry and location.
  • Business licenses: the city does not post a monthly list of new licenses. Ask for one through a public records request.
  • State filings: new companies registered in Florida are searchable on the state’s Division of Corporations site, Sunbiz.org. A filing shows a company exists, not that it has opened a storefront.

Opening a business in Coral Gables

  1. Check that the location’s zoning allows your use with the city’s Parcel Zoning Check or Development Services.
  2. Get any building permits for the build-out; see building permits and zoning.
  3. Apply for the city’s Business License and Certificate of Use. Invoices issued from July 1, 2026, use the city’s current portal; older ones use the legacy portal.
  4. Food businesses also need a state license from DBPR and pass a licensing inspection.

Exterior signs and storefront changes may need Board of Architects review.
